October 24, 2009: My friend, Chelsea, climbs a mountain in Spain and sleeps in a car
October 25, 2009: She drinks her way through Spain and flies back to Dublin
October 26, 2009: She runs the Dublin Marathon in 4.28.32
October 27, 2009: She attends a spin class with me
(That’s more activity in 4 days than I’ve done in 4 months)
Several months later…
April 10, 2010 6am: Chelsea participates in NROTC’s pack formation HUMP (9+ mile endurance hike)
April 10, 2010 7am: The boys start dropping weight from their packs without telling her
April 10, 2010 9am: Chelsea finishes with 68 pounds still on her back, all with a kidney infection.
April 11, 2010 12am: She goes dancing.
These are just two examples of my
friend’s feats. As Boston University’s
only female NROTC Battalion Commanding Officer in four years, Chelsea
commissioned the US Marine Corps this May. She constantly surprises me with
these insane stories that beat the odds or inspire me to work harder – stories
that she doesn’t even think are that crazy or abnormal. I can honestly say that
I’d trust Chelsea with my life, and the US Marine Corps is lucky to have her on
their team.
Occasionally, we cross paths with people who surprise and impress us. Some people show compassion to a friend, fearlessness on the battlefield, or incredible optimism during cancer treatments. Chelsea is limitless and an utter anomaly to me and to everyone who meets her.
Have you ever met someone who appears undefeatable?
