Grace's Story

In early July of this year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer for a third time. I had a left breast simple mastecomy. My surgeon thought I would only have to take Arimidex for the rest of my life. When I met with my oncologist, I was in total shock at what he had to say. I have a very aggressive and nasty form of cancer and it is five fold. Despite the fact that it was only about 1/2 inch in diameter that did not really mean anything except I guess the mammogram caught it before it could grow more. I am now in chemotherapy weekly for 12 weeks. After that is over I will be going every third week for infusion of Herceptin which attaches to the Her2neu cancer cells for one year. My oncologist seems to think this will give me another 5 years which will allow me to be a part of my grandsons lives and hopefully they will remember that their grandmother loved them more than anything else in this world. So, I am participating in the Be Bold, Be Bald campaign to be of support to my fellow cancer patients. My hair is beginning to thin out now and I expect to actually be bald before Thanksgiving. If people gain a greater awareness of this terrible disease it will be worth the stares and comments. I will ride the commuter rail from Lowell to Boston, go to work (where I have received tremendous support) and then to my chemotherapy treatment at Mt. Auburn with my bald cap on.  I will wear it proudly.

I praise your courage & will.. I Lost my SISTER in law 5 yrs ago to breast cancer. Me & my children have been avid in researching and participating in anything to do with cancer ESPICALLY helping people find info on new meds or research. Ask your oncologist about the new find in California about the "Shell or fish" treatment they found out of the ocean. Sounds crazy but there is something in 1 type of fish there that slows/stops breast cancer.
Good luck & Many prayers to you & ur family. :)
